YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

I have written 3 Essential Skills for Loving the Skin You’re In! to inspire you to examine your current relationship with your body and take the steps necessary to improve the connection you have with the amazing vessel that houses your soul. No matter where you are on the spectrum of body acceptance/hatred, or if you are a professional or teacher who works with people who are struggling with their bodies, it is always possible (and valuable) to increase your own self-love and appreciation for your unique body.

Here’s what I hope you will take away from reading my e-book:

about

An image of Connie Sobczak presenting at a conference.

I founded The Body Positive 25 years ago after my sister Stephanie died from an eating disorder and faulty breast implants. I had healed myself from my own eating disorder in my early twenties, and Stephanie’s death sparked my determination to change the world so that my daughter would never go through the pain of struggling with her body as my sister and I did.

As part of the message I was sharing, I used the term “self-love” (when no one in my profession was), even though at the time I was told it wasn’t possible and was misleading to tell people they could love themselves. I even had advisors tell me that the phrase would never work because it would be interpreted as masturbation!

Since those rough beginnings a couple decades ago, a worldwide Body Positive movement has blossomed. I’ve helped millions of people in over 20 countries around the world end the harmful consequences of negative body image by opening them to having a more loving, peaceful relationship with their bodies.

In addition to getting my book Embody published and producing films that have won a couple of awards, my time has been focused on working with school campuses, companies, and organizations like Amazon, Kaiser Permanente, ClifBar, Stanford, Cornell, Georgia Tech, Brandeis University, California Rural Indian Health Board, the National Association of the Deaf, the Mental Health Association of Illinois, and Girls, Inc., to provide facilitator trainings, classroom curriculum, and online courses to keep the movement going strong and reach as many people as possible.

I am truly grateful for my work, because I practice what I teach every single day. My self-love continues to expand and change, bringing new levels of freedom and awareness to my life. I still have moments of suffering, as all humans do, but with self-love as my protection, I am able to learn and grow from the experiences in life that are painful. It’s so easy to get lost and frozen in all the suffering without my consistent self-love practice.

Connie frequently publishes blog posts for The Body Positive.

THE WISE WOMAn COUNCIL:
Nurturing the Flames of INtuition and Possibility

Coming in 2021

This is an invitation to women* over 40 to experience my very best resources to support you to explore, reconnect, re-identify, and redefine who you are and what you want.

You are living in the most experienced, grounded, spacious time of your life.

Just imagine being connected to an incredible, like-minded, open-hearted, and intimate circle of women around the world who truly see you and understand you. A safe space where you can let out a big exhale and step away from all of your roles—spouse, parent, business owner, creator, contributor (to name a few)—as we reflect, share, talk, and inspire one another to stay
connected to our souls!

When's the last time you...

  • Went through a whole day without having a negative thought about yourself, especially your body, or chastising yourself for the food you ate?
  • Let go of perfectionism that drives you to work nonstop or to regularly work overtime, leaving no room for self-care?
  • Said no to a social or family obligation because you were craving time to create a vision board or read through old journals to see where growth has happened and where you're still feeling stuck in your life?

Many women over 40 feel they are at an incredible juncture in life—where they have been supporting so many others for a very long time, and now realize they could use some support themselves. Even if they are still raising children, there's a window that's opening for them to journey into the next phase of creating magic in their life. They feel rooted in experience yet open to new possibilities and finally have some time to focus on themselves, even if for just a little bit.

  • Connect with the playful, free, life-affirming parts of yourself that allow you to pursue life's joyful pleasures, like dancing, making delicious meals, or reading a good book while taking a bubble bath.
  • Gain a deep understanding of what feels right for your own unique life with tools that help you listen closely to and follow your intuitive wisdom (eat a delicious meal or skip a day of exercise without feeling guilty!).
  • Find the secret to forgiving yourself when you totally blow it in your relationships with others so that you stay present and enjoy their company regardless of any mistakes or misunderstandings that occur.
  • Access more inner joy and pleasure—with less dependence on external circumstances—so that you become a source of radiance for others, living life with very few regrets.

Don't let life pass you by while you miss out on the joy, richness, and juiciest moments because you were too busy tending to everyone else's needs and neglecting your own. If you are secretly yearning for space to fully let go, be yourself, have time to reflect, share, and learn while being appreciated seen, and cherished for all that you are, this program is for you!

New Wise Woman Council circles will open in 2021—save your space now!

“Connie's work is profound and important. She shows us how to lift ourselves out of darkness and into a joyous, strength-filled light. I utilize the messages and tools I received in the Wise Woman Council almost daily—especially if I'm having a rough day. The ability to stop, take a moment to quiet my mind, and know that I have a choice in the matter really helps. I just practiced this today as a matter of fact. As I was getting ready for my day and thinking about what to wear, my mind started down the old tiresome road of ‘that's too tight’ or ‘that makes me look...too young...too old...too this...too that.’ I was quickly able to catch myself and refocus on what the truth is about myself—and my body—and focus on what I love about it—and me. Such a simple and powerful tool! Connie’s teachings have helped ground me, lessen the noise in my head, and see beauty everywhere!”— Katie McHugh, RN, Sonoma County, CA

* Women refers to gender-expansive individuals (cis women, trans women, non-binary, gender queer, and gender non-conforming people, and any woman-identified individual).

EmbodY

Embody: Learning to Love Your Unique Body (and quiet that critical voice!) offers hope and a gentle path to self-love. The book’s message is rooted in the belief that people inherently possess the wisdom necessary to make healthy choices and live in balance. It emphasizes that self-love, acceptance of genetic diversity in body size, celebration of the unique beauty of every individual, and intuitive self-care are fundamental to achieving good physical and emotional health.

“A beautiful, wise, practical book that will empower a next generation to shed our culture of toxic ideas of perfectionism and bodily dissatisfaction. This book, and the Body Positive movement, are part of a compassionate revolution leading people to greater dignity and empowerment.”
— Dacher Keltner, Ph.D., Founding Director, Greater Good Science Center, UC Berkeley
“This is a gorgeous book filled with the wondering, awe-filled voices of people who have found they can lovingly care for themselves in their diverse bodies and circumstances. “Connie makes the quest for self love and acceptance deeply imaginable in a way that lifts the spirit and carries you to a place of hope and endless possibility.”— Linda Arbus, LCSW, Faculty of the Women’s Therapy Centre Institute, New York
